The Scotty fishing rod holder consists of 2 elements: a base and a fishing rod holder. In this case the set includes an external mouting base.
The bases are of three types: for internal or external installation or with mounting with a clamp for the edge of the cockpit or gunwale, depending on the place of installation and your preferences.
The base for internal installation has a closed bottom, which ensures that no water will get into the kayak, even if you forgot to put the lid. It has a low profile and thanks to the internal installation it is very strong under load.
The inclination of the holder can be adjusted vertically, and its position horizontally is determined by how you place it in the slots on the base. The holder has a locking ring to secure the rod.
It is common practice to mount bases in several places on the kayak so that you can move the holder to the desired position. The installation is carried out easily and quickly by drilling a round hole with the diameter of the base insert and four pop rivets when mounting on an internal base or only with pop rivets on an external one.
For a canoe or rigid boat, where the stand can be mounted on gunwale, choose the third option: the base with a grip. With a sit-in kayak, if you don’t want or have nowhere to drill, this base can be mounted on the edge of the cockpit.
